Walt Disney World® Golf Invites You To Join Us For A Unique Golf Event: The Feathers History of Golf Experience
Ever wonder what it might be like to play the game of golf with equipment from the early days of golf’s history, hundreds of years ago?
Would you like to try to play with a shepherd’s crook and a round rock ball from the 1400s, the wooden mallets and balls from the 1500s, the feathery balls of the 1600s – 1700s, and the gutta percha balls of the 1800s?
Well, now you have the opportunity to do just that!
We are pleased to be hosting a very unique event, The History of Golf Experience, sponsored by the Feathers Alliance. The name Feathers is derived from the golf terms used to describe scores under par, the Birdie, the Eagle and the Albatross.
The event will be played on the back 9 holes of Disney's Palm Golf Course on the morning of Saturday, November 16, 2019, with tee times available from 6:36 am to 8:21 am
The Feathers game consists of putting only, on each of the 9 greens, and you will use golf carts to move from one green to the next. Since putting is all about touch and feel, the game is playable by non-golfers and golfers of all skill levels, without being concerned with the power aspects of the game. Pace of play is typically about an hour for the 9 holes, providing for a fun and social, yet competitive game setting.
At each green, there will be two clubs of the era being represented, one right-handed, and one left-handed, along with two balls of the same era. All of the necessary equipment provided by the Feathers Alliance. The equipment will be actual vintage equipment, or high-quality reproductions, and each green will have a sign with a description and photographs of the historical era equipment at that green. Over each of the 9 greens, there will be a historical timeline progression of equipment, from the 1400s to modern day.
On each green, a pre-designated spot will be utilized to define the starting point for all players. You will get two putts to get down into the hole from the starting position. If you should not get the ball into the hole within two putts, your score will be the par score for the hole you are playing, that is, a 3, a 4 or a 5. The goal of the game, as with regular golf, is to complete the 9 holes in the lowest score possible.
Space for this unique event will be limited, as there will only be 64 spots available, and play will be in foursomes.
If you are interested in participating, we recommend that you register as soon as possible, and let your friends and family know so that they can register to play along with you.
The fee for the event is $40 per person, and includes breakfast, cart rental, and 9 holes of the Feathers game. Prizes and gifts will also be offered.
