Walt Disney World® Golf Blog

Walt Disney World® Golf, operated by Arnold Palmer Golf Management, is pleased to dedicate a new page on our web site to Mr. Arnold Palmer, his key role in bringing the PGA Tour to Walt Disney World® Golf and our proud PGA Tour event history.

From 1971 to 2012, Walt Disney World® Golf hosted an annual PGA Tour event in the fall of each year. Over the years, the event was hosted on our three original Joe Lee courses, Disney’s Magnolia, Disney’s Palm and Disney’s Lake Buena Vista golf courses. When all three courses were used, players would rotate among them during the first three days of the event, with the final Sunday round on Disney’s Magnolia golf course. In later years, the players rotated between Disney’s Magnolia and Disney’s Palm golf course during the first two rounds, with the final two weekend rounds played on Disney’s Magnolia golf course. Perhaps less remembered is that from 1974 to 1981, the event was held as a two-man team event.

Many of our Guests may not be aware that Mr. Palmer was key in bringing the PGA Tour to Walt Disney World® Golf in 1971 and we share the story of that history on the new web page, including the curious role that the Walt Disney World® monorail played.

Who would have envisioned that 40 years later, in 2011, Mr. Palmer and Walt Disney World® Golf would again team up with the signing of a 20-year agreement under which Arnold Palmer Golf Management would operate and manage the Walt Disney World® Golf courses.

We are proud and honored to now be six years into that valued partnership, during which many significant improvements have been and continue to be made for our Guests.

We invite you to read our new web page and we look forward to welcoming you to the “Happiest Place on TURF!”
